Mission Statement

The mission of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is to enhance the quality of life for seniors through advocacy including planning and developing resources in partnership with state and local governments, non-profits and the private sector, individuals, and advocates to meet the present and future aspirations of the growing senior population. By becoming a Certified Volunteer Ombudsman you are critical to the success of this mission.

Description

Long-Term Care Ombudsmen advocate for residents and help to resolve complaints in LTC facilities. The Volunteer Ombudsman Program began in 2005 because 60% of residents never have visitors and some residents don't voice complaints to staff for fear of retaliation. The vision of the Volunteer Ombudsman Program is to help residents of the long-term care facilities age with choice and dignity through the aid and assistance of individuals who want to make a significant contribution to the community through volunteer work. The Central Midlands region covers Richland, Lexington, Newberry and Fairfield Counties.
