About the Organization:
The Clinton River Watershed Council’s mission is to protect, enhance, and celebrate the Clinton River, its watershed, and Lake St. Clair. Established in 1972 as a council of local governments, the Clinton River Watershed Council was reorganized in 1994 as an IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Key program areas include watershed management, education, and stewardship.
Position Description
Assists with the citizen science program Adopt-A-Stream along with other team members. Volunteers will be trained on how to conduct macroinvertebrate, water quality and habitat surveys within streams and rivers of the Clinton River Watershed located in Oakland and Macomb Counties in Southeast MI. Volunteers conduct site visits twice a year (first weekend of May and first weekend of October), at designated monitoring locations throughout the watershed. Each site visit typically last 2 hours, for a total yearly time commitment of approximately 5 hours including drive time.
Essential Functions:
- Meet onsite to conduct water monitoring twice a year.
- Collect water quality, habitat and macroinvertebrate data according to given procedures.
- Return data and equipment to CRWC offices.
- Abide by Clinton River Watershed Volunteer Policies and Procedures.
- Abide by Confidentiality agreement.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn and attend training sessions.
- Comfortable being outside and in inclement weather.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Minimum of a one-year commitment to the program consisting of training and two site visits the first Saturday of May and October.
