St. Luke’s Historic Church & Museum, Virginia’s oldest brick church building, now serves the public as a living, breathing symbol of religious freedom. St. Luke’s serves its community with a variety of education initiatives, including daily guided tours, podcast episodes, educational blogs, and much more. The Development Department is responsible for raising charitable funds to support the organization’s annual expenses.

The Grant Research Volunteer directly supports the Development Coordinator in grant writing and successful grant awarding. Due to the training and onboarding process necessary for this volunteer project, as well as the time required for research, reporting, and facilitation, a minimum of 15 hours per week and a minimum engagement period of 3 months is required.

This volunteer position has the option to be fully remote if needed.

Responsibilities:

  • conduct research on corporate foundations, family foundations, charitable foundations, and nonprofit clubs and societies
  • prepare comprehensive dossiers for qualified organizations and foundations that include giving priorities, organizational reference sheets, prior giving histories, suggested ask amounts, and more
  • conduct preliminary email and phone call communications in the qualification process
  • participate in weekly meetings with Development Coordinator
  • assist Development Coordinator in preparing grant application materials, support documents, presentation portfolios, and other mailing needs for grant applications
  • other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • reliable access to a computer and the internet
  • computer literacy
  • self-motivated
  • excellent communication skills
  • good interpersonal skills
  • demonstrated team player with strong collaboration abilities
  • previous experience in grant research is a plus, but not required
