Recruiting Organization: Western Museum of Mining & Industry
The Western Museum of Mining and Industry is home to an actual working stamp mill that fires up during special events a couple times a year. Built in 1978 using 19th century construction, the machinery is typical of western mills and dates from 1890-1920's. Stamp mills were used to pulverize ore from the mines. Once a month in the summer months and at the Harvest Fest in October, a team of stamp mill devotees operate the Yellow Jacket II stamp mill to the delight of visitors. If you love machinery or have an engineering, mechanical, or machine background, consider being a part of the stamp mill team! Training is necessary and provided by the museum. Interested volunteers can also learn to operate other outside machinery to include the Osgood Steam Shovel and trammer. This is a seasonal opportunity. The stamp mill and outdoor machinery are operated at special events on Saturdays throughout the summer and at the October Harvest Fest.
