South Run Rec Center is seeking qualified volunteers willing to serve as a Scout Program Coordinator. Become a member of the close-knit South Run volunteer community. Scout Program Coordinators should enjoy working outdoors, mentoring youth and participating in a variety of stewardship activities. Hours vary but are usually Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. when scheduled.
Scout Program Coordinators will work with Scouts and similar groups seeking to do community service projects that support the Park Authority’s mission and purpose. This includes Eagle candidates seeking to develop their leadership and project management skills.
Duties include:
- Lead in planning and coordinating the Park’s Invasive Management program, with support from experts in the field who will provide equipment, materials, training, and advice.
- Select the area each Scout is assigned for his or her project and ensure they are using proper removal protocols to achieve the goal of ridding the Park of invasives.
- Use developed safety tips and protocols for identifying and safely removing invasives, to educate the volunteers.
- Support the Scout’s crew by driving the Gator when its use helps the project.
- Follow the Boy Scout two-man rule when working with children (training available).
- Except for imminent danger, make all corrections on safety and protocol thru the Eagle Scout candidate.
- Coordinate support for and track all projects.
