ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

Volunteer with us to deliver hope in the form of a refurbished computer to families in need and veterans on Long Island. Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers are needed in Nassau and Suffolk counties to deliver and install donated/refurbished computers in the homes of client families. The volunteer installer will pick up (via personal vehicle -- no heavy lifting required) the refurbished computer from a technical volunteer's home and deliver the equipment to the recipient client's home. The volunteer installer connects the equipment, informs the client what software is on the computer and provides a brief explanation of PC operation basics. No detailed technical knowledge of computers or software is required. The Installer function is one of the most satisfying aspects of the Community Computer Connections Program -- this volunteer gets to see the reaction of families and children who never thought they could have their own computer!

The Community Computer Connections Program (CCCP) is sponsored by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a not-for-profit agency. CCCP provides refurbished computers free of charge to individuals, families, and veterans across Nassau and Suffolk counties who would otherwise not be able to afford this equipment. Since 2006 the Community Computer Connections Program has provided more than 5200 furbished computers to low-income families and individuals on Long Island. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program's mission is to provide diverse volunteer opportunities to seniors that want to remain active in meaningful community service. CCCP offers this opportunity to our volunteers while making a difference in the lives of others.

Other needs: The Community Computer Connections Program has many other needs -- and we are certain we can find a spot for you in our Program. Other areas include: equipment transporters, clerical help, outreach for computer equipment and research for fund raising. Most of these opportunities can be done in the comfort of your own home.

The time commitment can be a several hours a month or a few hours a week. You work at your own pace. NOTE: deliveries can be done in a Covid safe manner.
