Social Media Volunteer -- Prosocial Video Games about Teen Dating Violence & Consent
ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org
Please visit the new page to apply.
Recruiting Organization: Jennifer Ann's Group
Jennifer Ann's Group is a nonprofit charity focused on preventing dating violence. Our most popular program is Gaming Against Violence through which we produce, publish, and research intentionally designed prosocial games about sensitive but important topics impacting teens.
Our games address topics such as consent, gaslighting, media literacy, and teen dating violence. We believe strongly in this approach to engaging, educating, and empowering young people. To date there are two published studies in peer-reviewed journals showing that our games are effective at changing unhealthy beliefs and attitudes after a single gameplay.
We are currently looking for a volunteer to help us with our social media presence.
We have accounts on many of the major platforms and need assistance in maintaining those accounts. We also need help creating accounts on those platforms where we currently have no presence.
You must be:
- very reliable,
- have excellent communication skills, and
- be fluent in English.
It is preferable if you also:
- are familiar with abuse prevention and/or have a public health background.
It is also preferable if you:
- are familiar with gaming culture and/or indie games.
We use Canva for creating graphics and Hootsuite for scheduling social media posts. These are easy to learn so it is nice, but not necessary, if you are familiar with these services.
Work may be performed anywhere in the world as this work will be done remotely. However, as we are in Atlanta it would be helpful if your time zone was close to ours so that we could have occasional conversations via Zoom.
To become more famliar with our work you should view, download, and play several of our prosocial games at jag.itch.io. They are currently free and will give you an idea of the games we produce. Some of the games also have associated lesson plans or parent's guides that are free to download.
It is highly suggested that you learn more about our organization and its history before contacting us. Here is an article in The Hollywood Reporter about our work that will give you more background information: " Video Games Against Violence: How One Nonprofit Is Creating Change" (content warning: abuse, death).
