JVS is a non-profit, non-sectarian agency. Our mission is to empower individuals from diverse communities to find employment and build careers; and to partner with employers to hire, develop and retain productive workforces.
JVS provides a broad range of services including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. JVS assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.
Program/Department Overview:
The JVS Client Services department is offering computer skills classes as part of our program with Tech Goes Home (TGH). TGH provides Chromebooks and one year of Internet service, all at no cost to clients.
The JVS Tech Goes Home (TGH) program is open to all clients and students that will participate in a JVS program for at least 15 hours. All JVS TGH clients must attend an orientation class to learn how to use the unique features of their Chromebooks. Other training classes will be offered that delve deeper into using Gmail, Google Docs, the Google Chrome browser as well as basic typing and mouse skills.
Access to technology removes barriers to employment, education, and many resources. Our students are of all ages (18-60+) and come from all over the world; many are immigrants and refugees.
Responsibilities:
The TGH Computer Class Volunteer will assist with setting up computers for class, distributing handouts and new computers, as well as assisting students during class instruction.
