Help us Sound the Alarm about home fire safety!
The American Red Cross is teaming up with volunteers and partners to Sound the Alarm with home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events. Volunteers are installing free smoke alarms in at-risk communities across the country. Every day 7 people die from home fires. Since 2014, we’ve saved more than
1,200 lives. Join our growing movement!
We are looking for volunteers to join the American Red Cross, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and community partners to Sound the Alarm, a home fire safety, and smoke alarm installation event that will help save lives. Ensuring that every home has at least one working smoke alarm doubles a family’s chance of survival in a home fire. When you add home fire safety education, that home then has a 97% chance of survival. Your generous donation of time and talent to install, educate, and document services provided could save a life in this community!
We will provide the tools, alarms, training, and lunch. All WE NEED is YOU!
Please join us on Saturday, August 13th at the Upland Meadows Mobile Estates in Upland to offer free smoke alarm installations and provide home fire safety visits to the residents. We'll be registering residents of Upland Meadows for appointments on the day of the event and going door-to-door to install alarms in neighboring Upland Meadows Mobile Estates.
As a safety precaution, we'll be conducting the group gatherings outside and masks will be required for the duration of the event. Please ensure you are in good health on the day of the installations. If you are exhibiting any COVID symptoms, you're awaiting a COVID-19 test result, or are quarantined or isolated for any reason, please do not attend the event. Masks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes will be provided by the Red Cross, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
If you've never participated before, it's easy, fun, and a great way to help your community. No experience is necessary as we'll train you. We organize volunteers into teams of three and give each person the role of either Educator, Installer, or Documenter.
The Educator discusses various home safety practices with the residents including how to prevent home fires and how to develop a 2-minute home fire escape plan.
The Installer is responsible for installing the smoke alarms in the best areas in the home. Must be 18 or older.
The Documenter fills out the necessary paperwork to document the install. We do a training session on-site, but if you are interested in learning more beforehand, you can watch videos at:

All you need to do is wear comfy walking shoes and we will provide all the equipment needed and a map of your assigned area.
Anyone that is vaccinated is welcome! Feel free to bring your family, friends, and neighbors. Just let us know they are coming by registering them at this link so we have an accurate participant count.
