CHANGE MAKERS NEEDED! JOIN OUR Board TO

EMPOWER COLORADO’S NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS!

Destination Imagination Colorado (DICO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing challenging programming to youth throughout Colorado that promotes creative thinking to solve interesting problems in areas related to science, engineering, technology, arts, theater, and service-learning. Competing in teams to engage in problem-solving in a competitive setting, students learn leadership, teamwork, real-world skills, and persistence. Our success has been demonstrated through the learning, engagement, and sense of efficacy that both adults and students show each year as they tackle interesting problems and compete on regional, state, and global levels. DI Alumni report back they are better equipped for success and challenges.

The DI Colorado Board of Directors, along with the Executive Director and regional directors, provide leadership to the program. Our fervent desire is to provide an opportunity for every interested child in Colorado to participate on a Destination Imagination team. We are seeking creative leaders to help us support that vision: individuals ready to help us increase our participation, and especially to increase the demographic diversity of our youth and adult participants and to ensure our future growth, sustainability, and impact.

The Board is responsible for developing/refining the strategic plan and implementing its actions; analyzing issues that may emerge during the year; thinking creatively of opportunities for expanding participation, deepening quality, and addressing challenges that exist for DICO. Our strategic priorities are in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion; corporate engagement and partnerships; fundraising/financial support; and increasing participant recruitment. Each board member makes a commitment to:

  • Be informed about, and actively support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of DICO.
  • Prepare for and attend board meetings at least nine times per year. Board meetings are currently held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM (subject to change based on Board vote). We mostly meet virtually, though there are several in-person meetings.
  • Attend an annual strategic planning retreat, usually held in the early summer.
  • Make a personal, tax-deductible contribution at least once a year at a level reasonable for your personal budget.
  • Participate in fundraising and special events for the organization, including at least one regional tournament (in the spring), the state tournament (in the spring), and at least one fundraising event (changes each year).

We will have two-four board seats open for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2024. We are looking for volunteers who have connections in schools across the state, connections to policy & advocacy for youth education and skills development in Colorado, experience with strategic identification of grants, and experience with legal or financial areas. We welcome individuals who bring a creative and innovative spirit to our board. We invite all interested individuals to apply: it is not necessary for you to have DICO volunteer experience, though we welcome all of our volunteers and parents of participating students to apply.

To be considered for this opportunity, please email board@dicolorado.com by March 31, 2024 with a cover letter conveying the talents or skills you could bring to our board and how you could contribute to our strategic priorities. Thanks so much for your interest!
