SpeakOUT Boston is the longest running LGBTQ+ speakers bureau in the nation. For 50 years, since 1972, SpeakOUT has trained speakers to share their personal stories and engage in dialogue with audiences such as schools, colleges, businesses, faith communities, organizations to raise awareness about the LGBTQ+ community. We have been centered in the Greater Boston area since the beginning, but have also done in-person events throughout the New England states.
In the last two years, SpeakOUT has broadened our services into doing online engagements for clients that have staff that are spread across the country, and sometimes across borders. We would like to see if there are volunteers in other parts of the country who would like to go through an online speaker training with us in order to fulfill some of our online engagements.
You will need a strong interest in sharing your personal story as an LGBTQ+ person and comfort in discussing your identity and other issues relevant to understanding the LGBTQ+ community. During the training, you will learn public speaking skills, SpeakOUT's format and speaking philosophy, and how to build an effective story by working with tenured speakers. There is a fee for the training that will cover materials to be sent to you. There is an upcoming Speaker Training on Saturday, April 22 at Suffolk University.
