The Virginia Discovery Museum is looking for motivated, self-directed individuals to volunteer their time as a Gallery Helper. Through this position, you will have the opportunity to socialize with members of the community as you interact with children of various ages and backgrounds. We are looking for helpers to maintain the galleries, help prep and facilitate interactive programs, and keep the museum running each day. Volunteers are expected to create a welcoming environment for visitors. Ages 14 or older are welcome!

Skills needed:
- Effective communication/verbal skills
- Ability to remain active for long periods of time
- An open-minded approach to children and their abilities
Responsible for:
- Interact with visitors and children and facilitate learning through exploration and play.
- Help maintain a safe, tidy, and attractive Museum environment.
- Assist Museum staff with exhibit maintenance and repair.
- Assist Museum staff with preparing activities for programs, camps, and community events
Museum hours are Monday through Saturday 9:30 am-5 pm. Shifts are 2 hours minimum. All volunteers are required to be vaccinated against Covid and masked at all times.

Description
The Virginia Discovery Museum is a hands-on children's museum for youth to enjoy learning and playing with their families. In addition to permanent child-based exhibits for visitors to explore, the Virginia Discovery Museum also holds a number of educational programs and special events throughout the year. With the Sponsored Admission program developed in collaboration with local schools, social service agencies, cultural institutions and governing groups, VDM aims to be a resource for as many families in the Charlottesville community as possible.
