Front Desk Volunteer at Virginia Discovery Museum

The Virginia Discovery Museum is seeking hard-working, responsible volunteers to assist with our front desk position. We are looking for someone committed to creating an inclusive environment as they welcome visitors into our space. Volunteers for this position must be available to work one 2 hour shift Monday through Fridays from 9:30 am-5 pm and be over 18 years of age. Volunteers will have the opportunity to form relationships with visitors and staff as they work with developing children of various ages and backgrounds.

Shifts are 2 hours minimum. Volunteers are required to be vaccinated against Covid and masked at all times. Visitors over the age of 2 will also be masked.

Skills Needed:

• Effective communication/verbal skills
• Training in the Point of Sales computer system
• Ability to assist individuals of all ages/backgrounds

Responsible for:

• Greeting visitors and creating a welcoming atmosphere
• Check-in visitors and complete transactions through the point of sale systems such as memberships and admissions
• Answering the phone and directing calls to the appropriate staff member
• Help maintain a safe, tidy, and attractive museum lobby
