Heartland Hospice is looking for Vigil Volunteers.

What does it mean to be a "Vigil Volunteer?" You will be providing a calm, quiet and supportive presence at a patient's bedside as they are in their final days or hours of their life. We want to make sure that our patients are not alone during those hours, and we provide that additional support for their caregivers.

Being a vigil volunteer is an as needed position and at times can be a last-minute need. The duration of these visits also could last for a couple of hours.

Most vigil volunteer choose also to be a friendly volunteer. A friendly volunteer is someone who visits a patient tp provide companionship and emotional support. They can sit with them, share stories, read the newspaper/books, play games, do crafts or simply hold their hand. This is not a requirement to become a vigil volunteer.

Vigil volunteers go through additional training. Experience and/or knowledge of Hospice is helpful.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please reach out for more information and our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out.
