Member Duties:
Career Pathway Coach-True2U-8th grade focus
- Provide direct support to 8th grade students through individual and/or group advising.
- Acclimate students to postsecondary planning by setting goals, administering career and personality assessments and assisting students with determining possible career pathways.
- Serve with Career Pathway Coaches in the Academies of Cleveland high schools during downtime in 8th grade services to support high school students with their postsecondary plans to include assisting with the concrete steps needed to implement their plan(i.e. applications, scholarships and aid, etc.).
- Support College Now’s Key Events in the high schools during downtime in 8th grade services (i.e. application month, signing day, etc.) serving alongside College Guides and College Now advisors.
- Assist students with making a post-secondary education plan.
- Help to facilitate career and college information sessions and programs for students and parents.
- Assist with planning and coordinating visits to industry sector partners in health, technology, and manufacturing in addition to college visits.
- Assist with planning and coordinating events: True2U Kick-off event; high school choice fair; exposure/experience trips; Year-end culminating event.
- Career Pathway Coaches aim for 50% of students served to report confidence in their high school choice and to ultimately enroll in their high school of choice.
- Serve as a mentor in the True2U Youth Development & Career Awareness Program. Mentors will help to prepare 8th grade students for the transition from middle to high school. All mentors will attend orientation, training sessions, and program events.
- Utilize the Naviance system and assessments when serving students.
- Track services for students by inputting data into designated database.
Career Pathway Coach - Academies of Cleveland (AOC) - high school focus
East Tech, Garrett Morgan, Glenville and, Max Hayes
- Provide direct support to high school students through individual and/or group advising.
- Support students with making a post-secondary education plan to include assisting with the concrete steps needed to implement their plan (i.e. applications, scholarships and aid, etc.).
- Support College Now’s Key Events in the high schools during downtime in services (i.e. application month, signing day, etc.) serving alongside College Guides and College Now advisors.
- Help to facilitate career and college information sessions and programs for students and parents.
- Assist with planning and coordinating visits to industry sector partners in health, technology, and manufacturing in addition to college visits.
- Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing the following events: 9th grade Career Experience Fair, 9th Grade Commitment to Graduation Ceremony; resume workshops; mock interviews; job shadowing days; and classroom speakers.
- Implement College Now’s 9th, 10th and 11th grade curriculum/workshops, resulting in a change in behavior from students (i.e. students will increase their belief in a postsecondary education as measured by a pre/post test)
- Career Pathway Coaches aim for 50% of students served in 9th and 10th grade to identify their career pathway of choice by the end of the academic year.
- Utilize the Naviance system and assessments when serving students.
- Track services for students by inputting data into designated database
Education: Bachelors or Associates degree

Service Description: The goal of the AmeriCorps Career Coaches is to deliver curriculum on career and college pathways and self-discovery and to serve as role models and coaches for Cleveland Metropolitan School District 8 th graders and high school students attending the Academies of Cleveland. The service provided by the Career Coaches will impact the skills and career gap in Greater Cleveland. Career Coaches will provide direct support and interventions that will increase 8 th graders confidence in their high school choice as well as impacting an increase in 9 th and 10 th grade student’s knowledge of career and college opportunities, interest in further pursuing a path toward a postsecondary education and belief that their postsecondary goal can become a reality. The AmeriCorps Ohio Career Coaches positions are a full-time commitment of 1700 service hours to be completed in 11 months, starting August 8, 2022. Career Coaches will receive a modest living allowance (up to $16,502) and an education award up to $6,495 upon completion of service. Additionally, existing qualified student loans are deferred during time of service and a portion of accrued interest may be eligible to be paid by the Corporation of National and Community Service. The AmeriCorps Ohio Career Coaches will receive ongoing skills training, and professional development opportunities.
