DASH Activities Volunteer

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Duluth Community School Collaborative

Share a skill or interest with students after school at Denfeld High School!

As a volunteer, you will support us in running DASH (Denfeld After School Happenings), an after-school program for high schoolers meant to provide a safe space to study, access tutors, and participate in activities.

DASH runs on Mondays - Thursday from 3:25 to 5:30 pm. We especially desire volunteers who can consistently attend DASH for at least one of the days week-to-week. This is important because volunteer presence is most beneficial to students when they see the same volunteers every week and can build relationships with those volunteers.

What you can do as an activities volunteer:

  • Share a skill or talent you have with a group of students in a structured 1-hour class. This can be a one-time class or multiple sessions for repeating or building skills.
  • Support an activity or group with added supervision and engagement with teens.

Volunteer commitments:

  • Show up in-person for the students regularly
  • Submit to a background check
  • Personal commitment to anti-racism and the mission, goals, and philosophy of the Duluth Community School Collaborative

Volunteers are supervised by the Denfeld Full-Service Community School Coordinator.

About Duluth Community School Collaborative

Location:

32 E 1ST St, Ste 202, Duluth, MN 55802, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster community partnerships promoting wellness and school success for youth and families, creating a community of life-long learners that embraces diversity.

Description

The Duluth Community School Collaborative is a nonprofit that provides services in several Duluth Public Schools, including Myers-Wilkins Elementary School, Lincoln Park Middle, and Denfeld High. These schools serve families with higher rates of poverty than many others in the District. Poverty often leads to academic under-performance, and limited access to the educational, social, and cultural enrichment opportunities.

The Duluth Community School Collaborative works with community organizations and individuals to support academic success and well-being of the whole child. We provide academic support, enrichment, arts and cultural activities, employment readiness, health-related services, and various other programming to holistically meet students' needs at our three sites.

The impact of these services extends far beyond the walls of the school, benefiting neighborhoods, partner organizations, businesses, and the city of Duluth.
