Each month Golden Gate Audubon sponsors workdays where volunteers help restore habitat for the California Quail--the official bird of the City and County of San Francisco and the State of California. We plant native species, remove invasives, and do general maintenance at various sites throughout the city. We hold workdays on the fourth Saturday of each month at Harding Park, in addition to our work in the Presidio and at Lands End. Golden Gate Audubon co-sponsors the Presidio workdays with the Presidio Trust. As far as Harding Park is concerned, there is a lot to do, so we always need more dedicated volunteers. It looks like that if we keep up the good work, we may be able to reintroduce some California Quail to the site within a couple years! Golden Gate Audubon co-sponsors this workday with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
Upcoming workdays:
- Saturday, November 15, 1.00pm to 4.00pm at Lands End
- Saturday, November 22, 9.00am to noon at Harding Park - PLANTING DAY!
For our work at Harding Park, we'll meet at the parking lot at the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Lake Merced Blvd. If you have any trouble finding the site or want any more information, please contact Jennifer Robinson at 510-843-7222 (office), 510-919-5873 (cell), or email jrobinson@goldengateaudubon.org.
