About the Organization:

Spheres of Influence is a non-profit digital publication dedicated to highlighting underreported issues in global affairs. In doing so, we work to amplify marginalized voices and provide low-barrier opportunities for youth to gain experience in journalism. We are based in so-called Vancouver, BC on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm territory and publish articles from young writers in Canada and across the globe.

About the Role:

We are looking to onboard dedicated, passionate, and talented graphic designers and storytellers to join our team. As part of the Spheres of Influence volunteer staff, you will contribute to the creation of graphic art to go alongside our digital content on our website and social media to deliver powerful messages to our diverse audience. You will also help drive our journey of brand cultivation, marketing, and various campaigns amplifying the content created by our team of journalists. Your work will become part of our initiative to spread awareness about underreported global issues, and you will have the freedom to pitch creative projects you're knowledgeable and passionate about.

This is an ideal opportunity for students, recent graduates, and young professionals to have your work published and build your portfolio while playing a key role in the growth of our digital platform.

This role is fully volunteer, fully remote, and requires around 3 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and design various materials for digital content
  • Ensure projects are completed with high quality and on schedule
  • Guide creative direction for the organization as well as brand guidelines
  • Retouch and manipulate graphics as needed.
  • Work with a wide range of media and use graphic design software


  • Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, and the web
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS preferred
  • Knowledge of Canva, Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, and other graphic design software
  • Creative portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects
  • Excellent eye for detail
  • Passion for social justice, Decolonization, Indigenization, and equity
