As a student, have you ever puzzled over a small question on your homework and hoped that some superhero would swoop in immediately to help you on the spot?

As a volunteer, are you looking for an opportunity in an area of your own choice to help students from around the world, with a flexible schedule so you can drop-in at any time at home?

Ring the Bell Tutoring provides a flexible and valuable opportunity for volunteer tutors to interact with students around the world while developing their own skills in a chosen area of interest!

We created an online platform to connect volunteers and students together via Discord. Students (G5-12) and high school volunteer tutors (G8-12) all log in to our Discord server. A student asks a question there, our platform matches and notifies multiple tutors for the question, then one tutor voluntarily picks up the question when they have free time. Then our platform connects the student and the tutor via a video call and chat so they can start a private tutoring session to answer the question!

We reward our "veterans" with the following benefits:
  • Receive volunteer hours for both preparation and meeting time (eligible for Presidential Volunteer Service Award)
  • Rankings for veterans based on high student reviews and commitment!
  • Build up reputation and experience in your chosen field
  • High-ranked tutors will gain prizes and internship opportunities from our company sponsors

Sign up as a tutor at tiny.cc/veteransignup! You may also sign up as a student at tiny.cc/studentsignup so you can get on-the-spot help from others!

About Ring a Bell Tutoring

Location:

Mission Statement

Though education is often called upon as the equalizer for all, inequitable access to learning resources and environments creates a barrier for low-income students. Studies find students of low-income households are on average 4 years behind their grade level. At Ring a Bell, we connect students with qualified, engaged tutors to realize our mission-- to close the educational gap based on students’ financial background between disparate regions within the U.S. and the world.

Description

Ring a Bell brings high school students as volunteer tutors to underserved students, online and by phone, to answer daily questions on-the-spot through an online crowdsourcing platform.

We are a social enterprise founded in the summer of 2021 by high school students located in the California Bay Area.

With our highly scalable platform and customized phone call feature, we reach out to the most remote areas around the world that other digital platforms can not access. In low-income regions, only one out of 10 children are on track to gain basic secondary-level skills. According to UNESCO, 420 million people would be lifted out of poverty with a secondary education, which would cut the impoverished population globally by half.

Harnessing the passions of student volunteers through crowdsourcing, we believe Ring a Bell can make an impact.
