The Sheldon Peck Homestead is the oldest home in Lombard, IL. Docents greet guests as they enter the homestead, answer questions, and provide a welcoming environment. Volunteers must be able to work independently.

Training is provided.

The Peck Homestead is registered on the National Park Service Network to Freedom as a verified stop on the Underground Railroad. Sheldon Peck was an abolitionist and an itinerant folk artist. This home tells the story of folk art through the eyes of Sheldon Peck. Visit the gallery telling the story of the abolitionist movement in the Chicago area.

The Sheldon Peck Homestead is open Tues, TH & Sat from 12 - 4 pm.

Located at the southwest corner of St. Charles Road and Grace Street in Lombard, Illinois.

Description

The Lombard Historical Society celebrates Lombard's heritage by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of Lombard and operates the Victorian Cottage Museum, the Carriage House and the Society’s Archives at 23 W. Maple Street, and the Sheldon Peck Homestead, a National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site, at 355 E. Parkside Avenue in Lombard.

The Lombard Cemetery (formerly Babcock’s Grove Cemetery) is maintained by the Lombard Cemetery Committee which is composed of members from the Lombard Park District, Lombard Historic Commission, Lombard Historical Society, the Lombard Garden Club and the Village of Lombard.
