VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT LOCAL PIONEER MUSEUM - Age 55 +
ORGANIZATION: Lutheran Community Services
Please visit the new page to apply.
Museum Greeters
Welcome museum visitors and share your enthusiasm for local history
Our docents are friendly ambassadors who greet museum guests and engage them in learning about Tacoma history and life in the 1800s. Museum greeters have excellent communication and customer service skills. They must be available for at least one shift per month
Community Outreach
Help us share the Museum with the community
We strive to serve the Tacoma community beyond the walls of the Cabin. Volunteers assist with distributing free activities for kids at Tacoma Farmers Market and Little Free Library locations in neighborhoods throughout the city.
Assist with fun, hands-on activities for elementary school students
The museum welcomes school visits on weekday mornings. Our field trip assistants engage small groups of elementary students in easy-to-learn arts, crafts and games.
Special Events Assistants
Help us build a stronger Tacoma community
Special event assists welcome guests and assist with creative arts and crafts activities during our annual Pioneer Days Festival and other community events. Volunteers also help to set-up and clean-up for single-day events at the museum and in the community.
Administrative Assistants
Provide necessary administrative support for museum activities and events
Administrative volunteers assist with a variety of behind-the-scenes tasks that allow us to keep the museum running in a smooth and professional manner. Assembling monthly craft kits, helping with mailers, and inspecting our field trip items are all important ways that admin volunteers contribute to the day-to-day activities of the museum and allow us to tell about the birthplace of Tacoma.
Tour Guides
Showcase Old Town's historic buildings and landmarks
Tour guides lead walking tours of historic Old Town Tacoma for elementary school students, senior groups and the community. Exploring the neighborhood and seeing historical places makes a lasting impression for our visitors.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE AMERICORPS RSVP (RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM)
The AmeriCorps RSVP is the nation's largest network for volunteers age 55 and older. The growing segment of our older population is vital to strengthening our communities through their interest in helping others. As an RSVP volunteer, you are strengthening the positive impact people 55 and over have in our communities. Our focus is to incorporate meaningful volunteer opportunities that provide purpose and a way to give back to the community.
RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches their personal interests with opportunities to serve in their communities.
Current RSVP volunteer positions include local food banks, congregate meal sites, non-profit thrift stores (shopping assistants, sorters, warehouse assistant, furniture assemblers in a fully equipped build shop), reading/enrichment/tutoring/ mentorship groups, museums, and administrative positions throughout the Greater Tacoma, Puyallup, Graham, Lakewood and Gig Harbor Peninsula.
We are continually bringing on new and unique volunteer opportunities that help our community.
RSVP is sponsored by Lutheran Community Services Northwest, a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the people it serves.
INTERESTED or have questions? Please email or call and we will mail or email an RSVP application for you to complete.
We look forward to having you as an RSVP volunteer!
