The Hostel in the Forest, is a 501 c3 Non-Profit membership organization, located in Brunswick, Georgia, USA. It is a center which promotes and teaches environmental sustainability, while also serving as a spiritual retreat, and Hostel for international and domestic travelers. It teaches a hands-on approach to a sustainable lifestyle through activities such as alternative building and organic gardening while complementing the processes of nature. While the Hostel is not dedicated to any particular religion or denomination, its educational programs and services are designed to integrate the ecological, social, spiritual, economic and emotional aspects of the human condition.

The Hostel Manager facilitates the Hostel Mission, and is responsible for: our daily operations, the care of the facilities and property, and the curation and the management of a 6 person staff.

‚ÄčThis live in position is for a period of 4 - 6 months. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be minimally 21 years of age. We ask that folks applying for management have at least stayed at the Hostel as a guest before.

Benefits include full room and board, a weekly stipend of $200 net (after taxes), access to all facilities and free retreats and workshops, and a chance to have your life changed!

Note, we hire a new manager every 4 - 6 months, so please keep us in mind for your future plans. We accept applications year-round.


If you require central heating and air-conditioning, private baths or anything that resembles luxurious accommodations, you may be disappointed. Instead we offer you a bed in a safe environment where your tranquility will be disturbed only by the roosters crowing in the early morning hours. We have composting toilets, outdoor hot showers, and while you will have a roof over your head and screens to protect you from insects, the air inside your room will be subject to the whims of Mother Nature.

Other facilities on the property include: communal living room areas, library, glass house, walking labyrinth, art room, hiking trails, swimming lake, and canoes.

Food is provided from the garden and chickens, and a nightly vegetarian family style meal is prepared each evening by members and staff, including many ingredients from our organic garden.

The Hostel sits on 140 acres of forest and wetlands, 2 miles from Hwy 95 in Brunswick, Georgia. It is located short distances from the famous "Golden Isles" of St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island. There are also many pristine coastal barrier islands including the famous Cumberland National Seashore close by.
