Old First Concerts has been presenting classical, jazz and world music concerts within the sanctuary of San Francisco's historic Old First Presbyterian Church since 1970, primarily showcasing local, emerging and mid-career professional musicians in a variety of innovative programs. Volunteering at O1C offers an outstanding opportunity for students, seniors, or anyone with an appreciation of music! Old First presents concerts each and every month with performances held on Friday nights (from 8:00pm to 9:30pm) and Sunday afternoons (from 4:00pm to 5:30pm), along with the occasional Saturday night performance (also from 8:00pm to 9:30pm). Due to the ongoing pandemic, O1C is currently averaging 3-5 concerts per month.

O1C volunteers are asked to arrive 60 minutes before showtime in order to assist with preparing the venue and assembling the program guides. Once the doors have opened to the public, your duties will then include distributing programs, offering directions and assistance to patrons, along with simple box office responsibilities which includes verifying the COVID vaccination status of all who attend. These responsibilities are equally shared among all volunteer staff members. Once the bulk of patrons have arrived and the concert is comfortably underway, O1C volunteers are then able to attend and enjoy the performance for themselves! At the conclusion of each event, volunteers will be asked to scout the venue for any personal items that may have been left behind and submit them to Lost & Found, collect and recycle all discarded programs, and in general, return the church sanctuary to its original state. Your time commitment for each concert will run approximately 2 and a half hours.

There is no regular commitment required on your part. We try our best to accommodate your busy life by making scheduling as flexible as possible, allowing you select when and how often you're available to assist --- however, we're especially in need of helping hands for our Friday and Saturday night performances. As of now, we no longer need additional help for our Sunday performances.
