The Senior Companion Program at EveryStep matches companions with home-bound adults in our community to provide in-person and virtual companionship, transportation, and respite at no cost to clients. Senior Companion volunteers are individuals age 55+ who offer friendship, social support, respite for caregivers, support with daily activities, and transportation to adults who need help with tasks, such as, shopping, appointments, and recreation activities. Senior Companions volunteers must reside in Polk, Warren, Marion, Lucas, or Pottawattamie Counties. The program aims to help older adults maintain their independence longer and provide assistance to family caregivers.
As a Senior Companion, volunteers can earn a modest, tax-free income for their time and compassion. The extra monthly income earned will not decrease housing, medical, food, disability, or other financial assistance received. Senior Companion volunteers have a regular, weekly schedule and consistent clients to build a relationship with over time. Senior Companions enjoy paid time off, holiday pay, meal and mileage reimbursement, and flexibility and independent scheduling. Senior Companions make new friends and help improve the quality of life for older adults in our community. As a Senior Companion, you will belong to a group of peers and staff who will support you.

Mission Statement
We empower individuals, support families and strengthen communities.
Description
EveryStep, formerly known as HCI Care Services & Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa, has been offering care and support for Iowans for many decades.
Our roots date back to 1908, when a group of nurses saw the need for public health nursing in Des Moines and founded an organization to fulfill that mission.
Since then, EveryStep has led the charge to address a wide variety of vital community health care and social service needs, offering prenatal support and home visits to new moms, assistance to immigrants and refugees, compassionate hospice and home care services, and grief and loss support.
Today, EveryStep has a strong reputation and a long history of serving vulnerable populations to help them live their best lives. Today, the non-profit’s 30 plus programs, more than 370 employees and nearly 900 volunteers offer care and support to Iowans in 47 counties.
