We are Yspaniola, a Dominican and US-registered nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality educational programs from preschool through university in Batey Libertad, Dominican Republic. Our vision is to provide our students with the tools they need to successfully advocate for themselves and their communities. Every year as part of our program, we organise a two-week summer camp for children all ages. We are looking for enthusiastic people who wants to volunteer as summer councelors for June 2022!

As a volunteer camp counselor you will:

  • Participate in an orientation day and training
  • Lead camp activities and/or classes for the duration of the camp (June 11-23)
  • Teach intensive English classes during the Summer Camp
  • Collaborate with local volunteers and Yspaniola local and international staff
  • Complete a two-week homestay in Batey Libertad to fully immerse yourself in the dominican culture
  • Discover the surroundings during group activities lead by our staff (beach, market, waterfalls and more!)

If you are :

  • 18 years or older
  • Experienced in teaching or working with children (volunteer experience is applicable)
  • Able to have a conversation in Spanish and/or Creole
  • Passionate about educational equity
  • Comfortable living in new environments and interacting with diverse populations
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and have a flexible attitude
  • Able to stand, walk and be active for a few hours at a time in the hot and sunny local climate

The participation fee is US$1,595. This includes homestay accommodation with a local family, all meals, transportation to and from the airport, activities in the community and in-country excursions. Volunteers must cover the cost of their own flights and insurance. Since we are working with vulnerable communities, vaccination proof will be mandatory.
