Brandywine River Valley Home Health & Hospice In West Grove, PA is currently in need of volunteers in the home!

A hospice volunteer is someone who wishes to make a difference in the lives of the terminally ill by contributing directly or indirectly to the services provided by hospice care. Volunteers provide emotional support and practical assistance that enhances the comfort and quality of life for patients, their families and loved ones.

As a volunteer, you’ll serve a wide range of patients with a variety of life-limiting illnesses that can include, heart failure, COPD, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease ALS, multiple sclerosis and may other terminal diseases.

Some of the common services provided by volunteers include:

  • Support services and companionship (reading with the patient, playing music, bedside presence)
  • Caregiver respite
  • Write letters; legacy work
  • Support community events (health fairs, outreach)
  • Sharing hobbies and special interests
  • Assisting with errands such as grocery shopping
  • Homemaking tasks (dishes/laundry) and light meal preparation
  • Veteran patients paired with those who have served in the military
We also welcome professional volunteers who hold a license (ex: therapy dogs, massage therapists, licensed nurses). Must be 16 and older to volunteer and 18 or older to volunteer directly in the home.

  • Varies. Volunteers visiting patients spend on average 2-3 hours in the home on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis. Volunteer Manager makes every effort to pair volunteers and patients based on schedule/needs
  • All volunteers will need a background check, drug screen, two step PPD screen and one reference.
