Anyone can experience homelessness and lose everything. Our guests depend on donations to receive clothing, toiletries, and other items. Volunteers are responsible for greeting donors, providing donation receipts, logging new donations, and sorting those donations into the main inventory. Sign up and be the person who makes sure our donations are well-stocked and quality-assured. YOU can be the one to make sure our guests have their basic necessities met so they stay focused on finding housing.

To sign up, please submit sign-up form at: https://www.lawrenceshelter.org/volunteer/.

About Lawrence Community Shelter

Location:

3655 E 25th St, LAWRENCE, KS 66046, US

Mission Statement

Grounded in human rights and social justice, our mission is to advance compassionate solutions for people facing homelessness through advocacy, shelter, and housing.

Description

The Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS) is the only emergency homeless shelter serving Lawrence and Douglas County in Kansas. In 2021, LCS created a new Housing Team based on Housing First Principles to provide long-term impact in our community beyond shelter. The Housing Team includes an Inreach Manager, Housing Navigator, and Housing Stabilization Manager. When people arrive at LCS, they meet with the Inreach Manager first to get any documents they’re missing. Then they go to the Housing Navigator to find housing and get help with the application process. Finally, they work with the Housing Stabilization Manager to get resources, supports, and referrals to make sure they stay housed. When people stay housed-when they have stability-they don’t end up back at the shelter. Instead, they begin their journey to a positive future!
