Position Title:
Emergency Translator

Purpose:
Provide Red Cross translation assistance to non-English speaking persons in emergency situation

Key Responsibilities:

• Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
• If unable to translate the request, refer to other resources
• Complete and return paperwork to Red Cross office
• Ongoing research of community language resources

Relationships:
• Red Cross, public and community agency staff, people with limited/non-English speaking skills

Qualifications:

• Able to function effectively in stressful situations
• Be fluent in English and at least one other language
• Be 18 years of age

Training:
• New Employee and Volunteer Orientation
• On-the-job support
• Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Compassion into Community Action, Mass Care Overview, Disaster Mental Health Overview, Shelter Operations, Shelter Simulations

Appointed by:
• Emergency Services Director

Reports to or Partners with:
• Emergency Services Chair, Emergency Services Director

Length of Appointment:
• Minimum of one year, renewable

Time Commitment:
• Incident determines time needed - calls may be infrequent
