Quick Overview: We're looking for an experienced grant writer to help up diversify our income sources by researching grants and helping to complete grant proposals.

Mission: Our Mission is to educate the public about railroad history as it pertains to the development of the Southwest Region of the United States, particularly the Los Angeles area. We fulfill this mission by supporting the restoration, operation, and interpretation of the historic railroad equipment at the City-operated Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities:
We are looking for an experienced grant researcher and writer who can help Travel Town research grants they qualify for and help complete and submit the grant proposals. The objective is to increase our pool of available donors as well as the number of grant applications we submit. The grant writer will meet with the Director of Development to:
Investigate and identify at least 10 new, prospective funding sources
Draft compelling grant proposal narratives and other correspondence to solicit grant funds
Research, develop, and write inquiries, letters, and other fundraising documents
Track and monitor proposals, their deadlines, and requirements
Establish a system for more efficiently finding and applying to grants
Desired Qualifications:
Proven experience as a non-profit grant writer
Working knowledge of MS Office
Strong planning, communication, and organizational skills
Excellent writing, grammar, and research skills
Experience in education, railroad history, or philanthropy and non-profit organizations a plus
Time Commitment: Approximately 3-4 hours per week.
Our organization is a member of the presidential service awards program, and we have an annual luncheon and award ceremony to appreciate our volunteers. Our restoration crew works Saturdays at the Museum, and you as the website developer are encouraged to come out and see the work that is progressing regularly! However, all work can be done from your home.

Description
Educational Tour Guides needed to instruct the general public and school groups. Great way to meet and talk with others in your community and help out the Museum. Volunteer leaders needed to work with local high school students earning their community service hours. Skilled restoration/mechanical volunteers needed to work on restoring Passenger cars and locomotives and other equipment at the Museum.
