Mission: Our Mission is to educate the public about railroad history as it pertains to the development of the Southwest Region of the United States, particularly the Los Angeles area. We fulfill this mission by supporting the restoration, operation, and interpretation of the historic railroad equipment at the City-operated Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful web design, and be willing to work with our President to create and fulfill our design for the look of the website. They should have good user interface design skills in Wordpress. They will work with ASRA/TTMF management to keep the site up-to-date and prioritize page development, coordinate draft revisions of multiple pages, and manage the revisions and completions in a timely manner.
Review current in-development site, create a strategy to list and then coordinate the completion of all the pages and links.
Input site content and graphics by coordinating with ASRA-TTMF management; could include designing images, icons, banners, other links etc.
Upgrades site by updating content and graphics; monitoring performance and results; identifying and evaluating improvement options; introducing new technology if applicable; maintaining links, and making suggestions for improvements.
Maintains site appearance by developing and enforcing content and display standards; editing submissions.
Create "Standard Operating Procedures" manual for ASRA-TTMF so other volunteers can update site as necessary, if primary user is unavailable.
Practical experience working with Wordpress (our existing in-development website platform)
Knowledge of web user interface design and web programming skills
Strong teamwork and verbal communication skills
Ability to use illustration tools and develop multimedia content
Experience working with nonprofits preferred but not required
Experience in education, or railroad history a plus!
Time Commitment: In the beginning as much time as you need to get the site up and running, then approximately 1-2 hours per week on maintenance. We would like a commitment of at least 8 hours a week to get things rolling.
Our organization is a member of the presidential service awards program, and we have an annual luncheon and award ceremony to appreciate our volunteers. Our restoration crew works Saturdays at the Museum, and you as the website developer are encouraged to come out and see the work that is progressing regularly! However, all work can be done from your home.

Educational Tour Guides needed to instruct the general public and school groups. Great way to meet and talk with others in your community and help out the Museum. Volunteer leaders needed to work with local high school students earning their community service hours. Skilled restoration/mechanical volunteers needed to work on restoring Passenger cars and locomotives and other equipment at the Museum.
