ORGANIZATION: A Home Within

As the heart of A Home Within, Volunteer Clinicians commit to providing free weekly one-on-one therapy to one current or former foster youth. Clients self-refer or are referred by community partners online, and AHW staff conduct a clinical assessment to inform the matching process. The duration of the relationship is agreed between the therapist and client based on needs and goals.

Every volunteer has access to an A Home Within-facilitated clinical consultation group and staff support with clinical issues as needed. A Home Within provides free monthly continuing education, offering CEUs for LCSWs, LPCCs, LMFTs, and Psychologists.

Since day one of the pandemic, we’ve seen a sharp increase in referrals, and our therapists report that their clients are struggling like never before. When young people get the mental health support they need, they truly thrive. Our volunteers comprise a nationwide community that's united by their shared commitment, and our collective impact is profound.

Mission Statement

With a mission to create and support lasting, caring relationships for children and youth in foster care, A Home Within identifies, recruits, trains, and supports a network of licensed therapists who each provide free, weekly, one-to-one therapy to a single foster youth "for as long as it takes." For foster youth who often watch people move in and out of their lives, our model creates an anchor of support.

Description

With a mission to create and support lasting, caring relationships for children and youth in foster care, A Home Within identifies, recruits, trains, and supports a network of licensed therapists who each provide free, weekly, one-to-one therapy to a single foster youth "for as long as it takes." For foster youth who often watch people move in and out of their lives, our model creates an anchor of support.

Our vision is that all children who experience foster care are provided this essential support, ensuring that as they transition from foster care, regardless of which stage of life they are in, they have the inner tools they need to thrive. By matching youth with experienced therapists, we address the trauma and disruption inherent to foster care, help youth manage stress and anxiety, and develop the inner tools they need to become healthy adults.
