Dependable Drivers Needed to Deliver Blood Donations from Middletown, Connecticut to Providence, RI

The Rhode Island Blood Center is in need of dependable delivery volunteers to transport boxed blood products to our Providence Donor Center's laboratory.
The Connecticut Blood Center is a new fixed donor center located in Middletown, Connecticut, operated by the Rhode Island Blood Center. While this new center is being built, RIBC is currently holding blood drives in the parking lot of Hartford Hospital Wednesday through Friday and every other weekend. RIBC is in need of volunteer drivers transport the boxed blood products from this location to the Providence Donor Center's laboratory at set times scheduled weekly. These drivers use their own vehicles and are reimbursed .45 cents a mile from the Blood Center to the pick-up location and back.
All products are safely packed in ice and sealed in special foam lined boxes at all times during transport to maintain the integrity of the donations and a high standard of safety for our volunteers. Because blood will spoil if it is not processed shortly after donation, our volunteer drivers are a vital link in the testing and preparation process.
All volunteers must have a valid driver's license, valid insurance, a dependable vehicle, and a clean driving record.

Description
The Rhode Island Blood Center is a private, not for profit organization that collects, processes, tests, and distributes all of the blood products used in Rhode Island. We also export to neighboring communities. The sick and injured in our area need 250 pints of blood every day. Due to the time and nature of donation and testing we must also work hard to have reserves on hand for emergencies. Volunteers are an integral part of the work that we do and when you assist the blood center you are truly helping to save lives.
