Winter class series: REAL Black American History
Seeking youth for classes taught at Urban Art Retreat 1957 S. Spaulding Ave. in North Lawndale, west side of Chicago.
The American Black History class series will be comprised of viewing a documentary by Henry Louis Gates Jr. called The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross. We will watch it in segments, discuss it, and make art about the film.
We will also have visitors, such as Billy Che Brooks, Paul Norrington who will tell their own story in the context of history. In addition we will learn about black Americans who contributed to American life and paint art about them. We will have discussions about current American life as it affects African Americans. Students will learn about black wall street. Each youth will write a story on African American history as they see it, and will illustrate the story. We will create our own film on African American History with students telling it. 8 Free class series seats. You can register your Youth by emailing us.
