Camp Mariposa could be the place for you! We are looking for Medical Mentors that love to be outside, participate with campers, and eat some S'mores while providing medical services as needed for our campers.

Camp Mariposa(r) is a national addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth who have been impacted by substance abuse in their families.

Camp Mariposa is offered free of charge to all families.

Children ages 9-12 attend transformational weekend camps multiple times a year. Campers participate in fun traditional camp activities combined with education and support exercises led by mental health professionals and trained mentors. Teens ages 13-17 participated in the same activities as our youth, with an additional leadership component added to their program.

Additional educational, social, and mentoring activities are offered for campers, teens, and their families throughout the year. These activities build knowledge, coping skills, confidence, and an opportunity to connect with one another. Led by mental health professionals and trained volunteers, Camp Mariposa provides a safe, fun, and supportive environment critical to help break the cycle of addiction.

Camp Mariposa is looking for an energetic and positive medical mentor (Rn or above) for four to six weekends a year. The medical mentor is onsite for the entire weekend and will work with the Camp Director and other mentors during the check-in and check-out of the campers.

The medical mentor's primary responsibilities are all health-related issues at Camp Mariposa weekends. Your license should be able to dispense medication to youth at camp. The Nurse is always required to be onsite during the camper weekend:

  • Pre-Camp Nurse will review campers' medical/health information, make recommendations to the Program and Clinical Director as needed.
  • The Nurse is responsible for all health-related issues at Camp Mariposa to include illness, injury, health emergencies, lice checks if needed, and dispensing medication. The Nurse collects all medication and health-related items during check-in, logs the medication, and safely stores them in the Nurse's quarters. The Nurse distributes all prescription and over-the-counter medications as necessary to all campers and will be expected to respond to all medical situations/emergencies at camp.
  • Outside of nursing responsibilities, the camp nurse serves in a mentor/staff role at camp by participating in educational and recreational activities and meals.
  • Proof of license will be required.

Traditional camp activities could include but are not limited to:

  • arts and crafts
  • camp songs
  • games
  • team building
  • yoga-mindfulness
  • archery
  • canoeing
  • swimming
  • sports
  • and more.....

All Mentors will be required to:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • pass a criminal background screening
  • provided 2-3 references
  • make a commitment of one year; to attend at least four camp sessions and additional activities.
