Puppy Raisers provide a home for our puppies in training (8 weeks to 1.25 years in age) and are responsible for daily care, socialization, and basic training. Puppy Raisers must attend weekly training classes at our Charlottesville facility or other designated locations.
Puppy Raisers must attend volunteer class and have a home visit before a dog is placed. SDV covers all food, medicine, supplements, leash, collars, and vet care.
Visit https://www.servicedogsva.org/volunteer-opportunities to apply to become a Night and Weekends Volunteer.
SDV requires all volunteers to be masked when at the facility and during group outings as well as complete a COVID-19 screening before attending class.
