Central Kentucky Riding for Hope is dedicated to enriching the community by improving the quality of life and the health of children and adults with special physical, cognitive, emotional and social needs through therapeutic activities with the horse. Community support and gifts allow CKRH to provide life-changing programs for people of all ages through the healing power of the horse.

There's no doubt that volunteers are the backbone of CKRH. To carry out our programming and care for the horses seven days a week year-round, our needs quickly add up! This gives you a wide selection of opportunities to help our mission.

There are many volunteer options not requiring horse experience, just the desire to help other humans. Sidewalking, barn assistants, office assistants, reception desk, marketing & development, facility maintenance and special events are all examples. If you have horse experience, consider becoming a leader in lessons. Whatever your talent, we appreciate your support!

Get started by filling out the volunteer application and plan to attend our next volunteer orientation. Individuals age 15 and older are welcome to volunteer. Individuals under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their volunteer shifts. There are also opportunities for Community Service Groups, such as businesses, fraternities, sororities, church groups. Contact our volunteer and media coordinator Betsy Owen find out how to schedule your group!

More than 125 volunteers each week are needed to provide safe, quality services to our clients. Join us in giving the healing of power of the horse to those in need.

We are following all current CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19 including masking, increased sanitization, and social distancing.

Mission Statement

CKRH's purpose is to enrich the lives of disabled individuals, children and adults, through therapeutic activities involving the horse. CKRH works with physical, mental, emotional and developmental challenges with clients over 4 years of age.

Description

Central Kentucky Riding for Hope provides both mounted and non-mounted Equine Assisted Activites. Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy are just two of the programs offered. CKRH partners with many Lexington area organizations including Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation, The Veterens Administration as well as Hospice of the Bluegrass and many local schools. Whether mounted or non-mounted, each participant interacts with a trusted, accepting horse and is supported by dedicated volunteers, experienced instructors and therapists. Why the horse? The horse's strength, warmth, soothing rhythm and three-dimensional movement pattern provides healthy exercise while improving circulation and muscle tone. The responsibility associated with horsemanship and social interactions within the program benefit our participants physically, mentally, and emotionally by raising self-confidence and encouraging independence through goal attainment.
