PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Career Planning and Mentoring Program (CPMP) is a computer lab-based education program. Learners will participate in a self-paced and project-based method of study. The computer lab will be equipped with education programming that will provide resources for basic computing and preparation to take the GED test. The computer lab will be staffed with volunteers who will support the study efforts of the learners.

Make a difference in someone’s life by volunteering to tutor adult students preparing to take the GED test.

Tutors will support learners in one or more of the GED test subject areas: Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.

Tutors will work one-on-one with a student with session goals being determined by the student. One-on-one attention boosts self-confidence for many learners who have had negative experiences in the classroom environment.

Along with support from the Learning Center Director, tutor pairs work together to determine the educational support needed and curriculum. You’d commit to meeting weekly with your student at the Grace Place Learning Center, 2625 E. Northern Parkway, Baltimore, MD 21214.

We ask that volunteers make a 9-12 month commitment to see your paired student through completion of the GED test. Before a tutors is paired with a learner, the volunteer will complete a free orientation and training session
