Recruiting Organization: Cambridge Volunteer Clearinghouse

Cambridge Volunteer Clearinghouse (CVC) champions local volunteer opportunities serving Cambridge, MA, and provides support to volunteers and agency staff to advance an inclusive volunteer corps in the city.

We seek Board Members to contribute their talents, resources, time, and energy to support the vision and mission of CVC, and to lend expertise and support to the staff, specifically in the areas of fundraising, communications, volunteer management, nonprofit leadership, and finance.

Tasks and expectations include:

  • Be an Independent Board Member: Offer independent assessments, opinion, and thoughts about any and all issues brought to the Board; take full responsibility for each vote or decision
  • Develop, Maintain and Support the Mission: Be faithful to, and always attempt to further, the articulated vision, mission, and purpose of CVC, acting in good faith and in the best interest of the organization; provide foresight, oversight, insight, and other professional and moral support to CVC staff
  • Collaborate on Strategy Development and Program Oversight and Implementation: Contribute to strategy development that advances CVC's mission and ensure that programs are achieving desired goals/impact, consistent with mission and vision; as needed and applicable, manage and/or implement projects in partnership with staff and other Board members
  • Contribute to Financial Health: Maintain familiarity with CVC's budget and monitor its financial performance; make a meaningful annual gift to CVC either directly or by securing gifts from contacts and/or cultivating CVC supporters, or other support of organizational fundraising efforts
  • Ensure Legal Compliance: Understand CVC’s position as a fiscally sponsored partner of Mission.Earth; comply with all applicable laws governing the activities of CVC and fiduciary obligations as a Director
  • Enhance a Positive Public Image: Promote CVC’s mission, accomplishments, and values to the public; participate in and encourage others to support and participate in CVC programs; serve as an ambassador for CVC

Time commitment: Participate in (typically) monthly Board meetings (remote or in-person based on COVID protocols); occasionally attend additionally scheduled meetings or programs/events; participate in occasional conversations over email or phone between Board meetings with staff or other Board members
