There are foster children in your area waiting for a mentor!
Just a few hours a month can change a life. Children in care who have at least one stable adult in their lives, are less likely to use illegal drugs or drop out of school. Mentors help children build social and academic skills, as well as increase their confidence.
You do not need any special skills to make a difference. Most children just need a consistent person in their lives. Arizonans for Children trains volunteers from our community to support the needs of children in care. We match each volunteer with a foster child in the community to build a one-on-one relationship. Mentors pick up the child from their placement and take them out for a few hours. You can do pretty much anything - most of the kiddos are just desperate to get out of the house!
Mentors spend at least 8 hours a month with the child. Some mentors will do a couple hours each week, some do longer visits every other week. The scheduling is very flexible! The relationship is for a minimum of 1 year and this is to help the child have a consistent and stable role model in their life.
This opportunity is available throughout Maricopa County.
