Event Description:

This February, pull on your boots and coats, and join us outside at Flannels & Frost, DRA's newest winter activation in partnership with City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. Join us for a celebration of cold weather with live music, hot beverages, and sweet treats, plus activities like s'mores roasting, wood carving demos, arts and crafts, the Igloo Book Nook, the Instrument Zoo, an interactive ice sculpture, inflatable axe throwing, and photo opportunities.

Volunteer Duties:

Volunteers will assist and help lead a variety of different games, activities and crafts.

Volunteer Impact:

Volunteers will interact with Raleigh residents and guests, participating in an awesome, free event at Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. Volunteers will contribute their time and effort into an event that helps keep the city vibrant and provides an opportunity to spend time outdoors during February.

Work Environment:

Every volunteer will be outside during this event but will have time for breaks. Some of the activities they'll help lead or assist with will require some physical work and movement, but no heavy lifting, running, etc. We have restrooms available on-site with easy access.

Volunteer Requirements:

Registration is required. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. All volunteers must sign a release form. Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian sign their form as well.

Other Instructions:

Volunteers should arrive prepared in outdoor clothing including gloves and a winter hat, if necessary. They will spend several hours outdoors. Please park at 215 S. Person St. Upon arrival, volunteers should meet at the stage, in front of Square Burger.


COVID-19 Policy:

Volunteers and staff must follow the COVID-19 policies below so that projects are safe for everyone.

  • Social distancing must be practiced (6-feet between individuals)
  • Masks/face shields are required for all volunteers (masks not provided)
  • Volunteers must participate in an infrared temperature check
  • State, federal, and local mandates must be followed
  • If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not register
  • If you are volunteering indoors you will be required to show proof of full vaccination

Group Registration Information:

Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email rachel.vannoordt@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
