Walnut Creek Wetland Park has a long history with Big Sweep. There were Big Sweeps being conducted here by Partners for Environmental Justice more than a decade before there was ever even a park! We need volunteers to continue the legacy by helping us to remove trash that is thrown into the wetland, as well as trash that washes into the wetland from Walnut Creek and Little Rock Creeks when they spill their banks during heavy rain events.
Litter pickup along State, Peterson, Bailey and Garner Roads, within Walnut Creek Wetland Park, and within Little Rock and Walnut Creeks.
Over the course of time, over 59 tons of trash have been picked up from this sensitive area.
This event will take place outside. Refreshments will be available when we are done. Restrooms are available at the center. If needed, volunteers are able to participate in this cleanup along Little Rock Creek Greenway, a paved surface.
All volunteers must be in high school or older, unless accompanied by a parent or group leader. All volunteers under 18 years of age must have a volunteer release signed by their parent or guardian. Adult volunteers must also sign a waiver.
Volunteers should dress to be outdoors, and possibly get messy, wet or muddy. Some volunteers will be going into the creek with boots. Bring your own boots or borrow a pair of ours. Volunteers should bring a refillable water bottle. Snacks will be available after the cleanup.
