ORGANIZATION: Hearts and Hands

  • 2 people are interested

Ready to help a neighbor feel more connected to their community? You can help a caregiver receive a well-needed break through caring, meaningful interactions by spending two hours a month with a senior neighbor in need.

Hearts and Hands matches caring, reliable volunteers with older community members who have essential needs like caregiver support, to ensure they can continue living independently.

Caregiver support volunteers spend time with a neighbor having friendly conversation, playing games, watching television, or even reading the newspaper. Time spent allows for caregivers to receive the respite they need, and deserve, to make their own appointments and catch up on errands.

We make volunteering easy!

Description

Hearts and Hands is a non-profit organization that matches caring, reliable volunteers with older community members who have essential needs, like transportation, to ensure that they can continue living independently. The organization, founded in 2003, provides services to underserved areas in Western New York. Our program is a best efforts and no charge delivery of services.

Our focus is on services that enhance nutritional status, foster socialization, increase physical activity, and provide access to medical, dental and other health services. If we cannot provide a requested service, we will refer that request to an agency that is able to meet the need. We work closely with the Alzheimer Association, Meals on Wheels, the Erie Co. Dept. of Senior Services, the local first responders and other area service providers. Currently, the organization serves Erie and Eastern Niagara Counties.
