We are looking for some amazing people to help us with a very special project. Dreaming of a Chance is looking for a volunteer illustrator so that we can create children's books to teach about animal welfare from a young age. These book illustrations would probably be mainly of pigeons and landscape backgrounds but may include other types of animals (mostly birds) as well.
We are hoping to utilize your talents to help serve the educational portion of our mission by creating a children’s book series that teaches kids how to advocate for birds at a young age and in a fun way. We believe that this would be a way to help expose children to different plights of domestic birds to help prevent cruelty in future generations. Possible topics would include things like why domestic birds can’t be abandoned, what pigeon racing and dove releases are, and how abandonment of animals can negatively impact wildlife. This would educate both children as well as parents about how they can help birds and prevent cruelty/abandonment in the first place.
About Dreaming of a Chance Farm Animal Sanctuary
21 Moore Rd, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569, US
Our sanctuary focuses on rescuing abandoned poultry from around the Hudson Valley and NYC area. We strive to provide these rescues with quality care at their forever home here at Dreaming of a Chance and educate the public about poultry.
We opened at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic knowing that a ton of animals were going to be displaced due to the struggles the world was facing and decided to focus on poultry because so few do and in our opinion, they needed help the most.
Tons of birds were in need of homes as people got birds as covid pets as something fun to do during the pandemic and realized they no longer wanted them. Abandonment cases skyrocketed and we made the change to focus all our efforts on helping abandoned birds.
Abandoning a bird puts them at extreme risk of death by predators. If they are lucky enough to survive predation, starvation claims them. Domestic birds have no survival skills and many have been genetically modified to decrease flight capabilities putting them more at risk.
Volunteers help us care for all these once abandoned birds that call our sanctuary home and create a support system that enables us to help more. Volunteers are an integral part in helping us further our mission and are able to help in a variety of ways. Since our start, we have helped over 70 birds. This is thanks to wonderful individuals like you. We would love to have you as part of our team. Let us know if you're interested in volunteering.
