Dependency Client Case Representation
Partner with another Crossroads attorney to represent a child in foster care or a young adult in extended foster care. Dependency judges refer youth to Crossroads for representation. Advocate for your client at court hearings, case management staffings, and meet with your client to give advice as needed. Enter the world of a poor youth in foster care and help him/her receive all of the benefits and services they are entitled to. Be a "cheerleader" as you shine a light on your client and show them how they can use their talents to be successful. It will be a rewarding experience for both you and your client.
Delinquency Client On-call and Extended Representation
· On-call - Serve as an on-call Attorney ad Litem (AAL) for children who arrive in court for their delinquency hearings without a parent or guardian. Each month you sign up for a day and a public defender will call you if needed. If so, you go to the courtroom and talk to the public defender and the child to ensure that he/she understands the proceeding that will take place. Serving as an attorney, you will have confidential conversations with your client.
· Extended representations - Delinquency judges refer youth to Crossroads who have parents unwilling or unable to assist them in completing conditions of probation, or other needs. You partner with another crossroads attorney to serve as the child’s attorneys, working with and deferring to the public defender.
Enter the world of a poor child who is de facto dependent. Take the time to assist them at their hearings and/or with completing conditions of probation.
