About Immigrant Guide

Since 2018 Immigrant Guide has been serving immigrant families, refugees, and asylum seekers in Washington State. The all-volunteer nonprofit organization is dedicated to building a stronger, independent, and more resilient community of immigrants and refugees through celebrating culture and heritage and providing access to resources. We use innovative technology-focused strategies intertwined with Social Work theories to work with our communities to bridge the gaps that contribute to the daily challenges of living in a new country. Our organization provides social service resources and community-building activities to support immigrants and their families.

Board of Directors

Immigrant Guide’s Board of Directors is the governing body, overseeing the vision, mission, and internal operations of the organization. Immigrant guide’s Board members are elected for two-year terms. Board members hold overall fiscal and managerial oversight responsibility for the organization. They are charged with the supervision and oversight of Immigrant Guide’s mission. They are responsible for making decisions, delegating work, and assuring decisions are carried out in the manner intended. Ultimately, board members serve as ambassadors for Immigrant Guide's mission, inside and outside of organizational commitments. Immigrant Guide is currently seeking a Volunteer Board Vice-Chair (10 hrs a month) to provide service to the organization

Purpose: The Board Vice-Chair or the vice president-generally offers support for the board chair and other leadership when needed.


Authority

The Vice-Chair , as other board members, has no authority to direct staff or take independent action on matters outside of the duties outlined unless given such authority by the Board.


Time Commitment

Ten hours per month (board meetings, meetings with the Executive Director, committee meetings)

Term of Office

Two years with the possibility of renewal for a second term.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend all board meetings
  • Serve on the executive committee
  • Carry out special assignments as requested by the board chair
  • Understand the responsibilities of the board chair and be able to perform these duties in the chair's absence
  • Participate as a vital part of the board leadership
