Mission Statement

YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The mission of the YWCA Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is to build an environment in which women and children thrive.

Description

The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, established in 1920, is the leading human service agency for women and their families in Anne Arundel County. Begun to provide housing and meals for young women working in the State capital, the organization has grown and evolved with the ever-changing needs of our Anne Arundel County neighbors. Today, the YWCA offers a continuum of programs and services for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, including a 32-bed emergency safe house for survivors of domestic violence, domestic violence legal services, domestic violence counseling and support groups, an abuser intervention program for perpetrators of domestic violence, specialized counseling and support groups for children affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault, twenty-four hour domestic violence and sexual assault hotlines, hospital accompaniment for victims of sexual assault, and education for safe house residents. The YWCA also sponsors the Tribute to Women and Industry, a program that honors women for their outstanding achievements in business and the companies committed to their professional growth.
