Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit

Image_202201101039

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit is in need of volunteers to assist us with making phone calls to supporters and processing donations online. Volunteers will be provided with a secure Googlevoice phone number to use, access to a call list and pre-made scripts. A 1 hour training will be provided the week leading up to the project to address any instructions, concerns and questions.

Staff will be available via Zoom all day to assist volunteers with any needs.

It is imperative we start 2022 off with great fundraising, which will allow us to enroll more youth into our program and provide them with access to the tools and resources they need to meet their full potential.

Description

ABOUT US

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit (BBBSMD) is a non-profit agency whose vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.

MISSION

Our mission is to strengthen children in need through one-to-one relationships with volunteer mentors.

HISTORY

Big Brothers was founded in New York City in 1904 by Court Clerk Ernest Coulter. Appalled by the suffering and misery of the thousands of children who came through his courtroom, he appealed to civic and business leaders to take on the role of a "Big Brother". By 1916, BBBS had spread to 96 cities across the country.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit has been serving children in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties since the 1930s. In 1974, BBBSMD was formed from the merger of Detroit Episcopal City Mission Society, Catholic Big Brothers, and Big Brothers affiliates in Oakland and Macomb counties.

Most of the youth in our programs are being raised in single-parent households or by a non-parent caregiver or guardian; many live in low-income families and communities with few community resources; and many are doing poorly in school and lack positive adult role models.
