ORGANIZATION: The Pulp Stage Theatre Company

  • 12 people are interested

The Pulp Stage theatre company is seeking wonderful new voices for our volunteer Board of directors.

WHAT IS THE PULP STAGE?

We are a reader's theatre company, specializing in

1) genres that are popular in TV & Film: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Adventure, Mystery, Horror and more.

2) original scripts that are built to just be read aloud.

Essentially, the live theatre that we create is a modern version of campfire storytelling! For an example of what this looks like in action, have a look at this video highlighting one of our previous projects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKzC0L9JHos&t=55s

WHO ARE WE REACHING OUT TO?

We are passionate about serving the widest range of communities. A key way to do this is to diversify the voices on our Board. Right now, we're missing the voices from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities.

WHERE ARE WE BASED?

We operate out of Portland Oregon. However, because our meetings and shows are virtual, our volunteers can participate from anywhere in the world.

WHAT'S THE OPPORTUNITY?

Becoming a Pulp Stage Board member means taking part in shaping (and creating shows with, if you like) a theatre company that has a track-record of collaborative service. We have created theatre experiences with

*young students

*senior citizens

*first-time performers, seeking encouragement

*seasoned actors and directors seeking more opportunities to hone their craft

*Sci-fi and Fantasy fans, new to playgoing

*novelists and story writers, new to playwriting

*playwrights seeking more development and production opportunities

*individuals with mobility challenges

*individuals with memory challenges

*individuals who are neurodivergent (working with conditions such as autism and ADHD)

*audiences needing to access theatre remotely

*populations experiencing homelessness

*non-traditional venues such as households, libraries, bars, restaurants... even office spaces!

WHAT ARE THE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES?

In addition to Board membership, we offer outlets for volunteers who have theatre "itches" they'd like to scratch; from acting, to writing, to directing, we'd love to be a platform for our peoples' passions.

WHAT'S THE COMMITMENT?

The baseline time commitment of a Board member is 4-hours per month. This includes one 2-hour Board meeting and a combined 2-hours of reading any email communications between meetings, and performing any chosen duties.

Board members are expected to

-attend all Board meetings (scheduled to everyone’s convenience)

-participate in discussions during the meetings as we strategize the best ways for the company to serve our mission and the best ways for the company to serve our current emphasis on diversification.

-share Fiduciary Responsibilities as a Board member (agreeing to taking no actions that would be conflicts of interest and understanding that the Board may be held liable if there is a charge against the company- we are insured for this, but this responsibility does exist.)
