Recruiting Organization: The Excellence Center in Palestine and Germany

Volunteer with Palestinian Refugees in the West Bank: This program is for anyone interested in volunteering with refugees in the West Bank - there are a plethora of ways to do this. First and foremost is working with children in Palestinian refugee camps. The schools in these camps are underdeveloped and lack many of the basic resources to fulfil their students’ educational needs. Further, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with Palestinian law firms, international NGOs, and charity organizations to advocate for the rights of refugees. Participants can also create educational workshops for Palestinian children. These workshops are crucial because they teach children new skills, as well as expose them to foreign cultural ideas and frameworks.

This program is for anyone who is interested in working with refugees in a volunteer capacity, has an interest in political science or the politics of the Middle East, would like to pursue a career in teaching, or is simply looking for ways to give back. Volunteering with refugees in the West Bank is an excellent opportunity for university students/recent graduates who are looking to build experience in the human rights field. In this program, volunteers will work with kids, women, and youths in order to insure they have the necessary resources they need to reach their full potential. Please read the information below to see if volunteering with Palestinian refugees in the West Bank is right for you!

In addition, volunteers will also have the opportunity to work in association with local Palestinian law firms and charitable organizations. In these positions’ volunteers will assist law firms processing paperwork and casefiles, as well as aid in copywriting work and translation (if skills are applicable). Further, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with local public schools in Hebron, outside of refugee camps, in order to assist teachers in ensuring Palestinian children receive the educational resources they need. It is also a unique experience for Palestinian children to meet foreigners, for so few come to Palestine. Volunteers presence in these schools and refugee camps will help Palestinian children understand that the world is much bigger than the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, and that they are not forgotten. All of the volunteers’ efforts, whether they be inside or outside of refugee camps, will be directed toward aiding the displaced peoples of Palestine.

In addition to aiding Palestinian refugees in Hebron, volunteers will also enroll in 3 hours of Arabic courses per-week. The intention behind these mandatory Arabic courses is so that volunteers will be better able to interact with the people of Palestine. It is generally a mark of good diplomacy when things are exchanged and connecting with local Palestinians will be made easier by participants’ willingness to learn the Arabic language. In addition to Arabic language acquisition, participants will take part in Center lead excursions into the historical and politically significant parts of Palestine. These excursions will include visiting the neighboring cities of Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and the Old City of Hebron.
