Volunteer Descriptions: Bison Opening Day Event

Location: Nebraska History Museum 131 Centennial Mall Lincoln, NE 68508

Date: February 12 th

Time: 9am-4pm

Training for Activity Table Lead, Touchable Collection Lead and Gallery Guides will take about an hour to an hour and a half. Training times are available the week before the event on

  • Wednesday Feb. 9 th between 9am and 5:00 pm
  • Thursday Feb. 10 th between 9am-3:30 pm
  • Friday Feb. 11 th between 9am - 5:00pm

Membership Ambassador - 1 volunteer needed 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM (first 30 minutes will be for training).

The Membership Ambassador will be responsible for checking members in, handing out their badges, and directing them to the members only room.

Skills needed: excellent social skills to provide the members with top tier customer service. The ability to handle multiple tasks at once. Able to stand for the 2 /12 hours.

Activities Table Lead - 1 volunteer needed 8:45 AM - 4:00 PM (partial shifts welcome)

The volunteer will be responsible for explaining and assisting children with a Bison related project. This includes relating some information on bison (provided by the museum), restocking craft supplies, and cleaning up after participants.

Skills needed: excellent social skills, be able to handle busy environments, and stay on their feet for longer periods of time.

Hands-On Collection Lead - 1 volunteer needed 8:45 AM - 4:00 PM (partial shifts welcome)

The volunteer will be responsible for managing the touchable collection station. This includes educating visitors on the various touchable items (information and training provided by the museum) and monitoring the collection.

Skills needed: excellent social skills, be able to handle busy environments, and stay on their feet for longer periods of time.

Gallery Guides - 2 volunteers needed 8:45 AM - 4:00 PM (partial shifts welcome)

The Gallery Guides will be responsible for stations within the exhibit where they will direct participants, answer questions, and give additional information on the exhibit (provided by the museum).

Skills needed: excellent social skills, be able to handle busy environments, and stay on their feet for longer periods of time.

Parking passes available for parking garage parking.

Lunch and drinks will be provided.
